is a radio transmission technology that has one big advantage compared to other radio technologies: its susceptibility to interferences from metal is very low. This advantage is used to enlarge the transmission range with metal reflectors.
One of the disadvantages from 868 MHz is the limitation of the transmission range by water and hydrous material, another disadvantage is that a lot of transmission systems use this frequency and therefore disturbances are possible.
For applications where a lower level of security is needed, using 868 MHz can make sense due to its lower price because of the lower complexity.
